Calidad Coyote and Indios de Calidad
Topic starter
I have some baptisms from 1776 where there are some references to the race of the people.
One is Calidad Coyote.
I have some baptisms from 1776 where there are some references to the race of the people.
One is Calidad Coyote. I know that a Coyote was a person who had one parent that was a mestizo and one that was Indian. Does the “calidad” mean, as my Spanish dictionary states, “quality, condition, character, rank, fashion, stipulation”?
And what would Indios de Calidad be? That they were “Indians of high rank”?
