I found a record of the death of a Carlos Lomelin in Spain in 1648….Would anyone know if this is the same one who the Lomelis from Jalisco decend from?

The record mentions that Carlos had a brother named Juan Baptista Lomelin. That may help.

I didnt catch that at first(Juan Baptista)….Its well known Carlos de Lomelin had a brother named Luis ,but I am not aware of a Juan Baptista.Ive read Lomellin was changed to Lomelin upon reaching Mexico…so it’s left me a bit confused why this Carlos in Spain would be Lomelin instead of Lomellini. Im wondering if anyone who has done more research than me on Carlos Lomelin would happen to know if he died in Mexico or Spain and in what year. I haven’t read anything on his death in my short time researching. Thanks, Alejandro Lomeli

Carlos,

The Lomellini family was one of the principal nobles houses of Genoa, Italy. At the time certain parts of Italy were under Spanish dominion. If you look up italian genealogical books on google books it will come up several times. I do know of projects that are taking place as we speak about the origins of this family. You are correct, Luis or Luigi Lomellini was the brother of Carlo Lomellini. If I recall correctly, Luis settled in Pachuca and Carlos, obviously settled in Nochistlan. There were many other Lomelin who settled in the 1500-1600s in Mexico City. Have you been able to connect to Carlo Lomellini? I think I descend about 5 times through the Lomelin and Lomelin y Mendoza, different lines that took different names.

hello Daniel,
I wasnt aware of other Lomellinis settling in Mexico City, I was under the impression The Lomelins from Jalisco/Nochistlan in the old days pretty much descend from Carlos and the ones from Mexico City from Luis. I have found(and with help of members here) that i descend directly from Carlos.Ive also found I have another Lomeli line branching in, and 3 Xaurigue/Jauregui lines as well(which i plan on coming back and doing research on).Since Ive reached Carlos de Lomelin on my line I’ve taken a greater interest in researching the Lomellinis. Ive read some articles on them here online , but not much on them dealing with Spain.I am open to suggestions on anything written about them, and hopefully be able to further my tree. Thanks,
Alejandro lomeli

The main branch of lomelini that went from genoa to Spain descend from Marco lomelini but this is not entirely accurate since other cousins lomelini also came over and intermarried with Marcos descendants. The lomelini were businessmen that moved around. There is a painting of lomelinis in a museum in Scotland. The men in the painting look just like the lomelinis from San Miguel el alto. a couple other lomelinis seem to predate Marcos but it looks as their families went Back to genoa or to their other palaces in Italy
They were very successful businessmen for the most part and many of them liked to monopolize whatever trade they were involved in. Their homes:/palaces are. NOw hotels

I forgot to add that the name change began in Spain and the branch that went to Portugal.
