Looking for my 4th GGrandfather Cipriano Puente born in Fresnillo in 1787 but the records don’t go back that far for that location.

Looking for my 4th GGrandfather Cipriano Puente born in Fresnillo in 1787 but the records don’t go back that far for that location.

Does anyone know why the records for Fresnillo are so few? Were the records lost? The city was established in 1554 so the records must be someplace if not lost.

any thoughts?

ps: I did find his MI record for when he married Eduarda Torres in 1813 in Villanueva:
