interesting to you you should reply to it and your answer will go out to

As far as my research… I have taken some time off trying to find new information and have begun to more formally compile the information that I have. I have begun writing a book on the historical ethnography of the Totatiche area along with my father’s genealogy.

Esteban Valdes Salazar, the local historian in Totatiche is currently writing a book on the Pinedos and Ortegas of Totatiche so I am waiting for that before I go further on my mother’s genealogy since she is both a Pinedo and an Ortega.

As part of my formal compilation I have begun taking systematic scans of documents in my databases film by film. I am able to scan directly to a JPEG file and the quality is amazing. I then adjust the contrast and brightness, clean them up a bit and upload them. It works great as a filing system.

“partera” translates as midwife. In these pueblos there were obviously no doctors so births were attended to by women who had learned the art of aiding in childbirth through their mothers, aunts, etc. who had performed the same function.

Interesting tidbit, as I was reading through the Luz Montejano’s Guadalajara dispensations book I ran across a couple of dispensations where midwife’s were called in as expert witnesses to attest to women’s virginity in cases of questionable fidelity (i.e. the woman was accused of having had relations with a sibling or father of the pretenso)

My heart skipped a beat when I read what you had posted about “El Santo Mateo Correra Magallanas.” Is it possible that “Correra,” is actually “Corvera/Corbera?”
I was working on trying to figure out the following:
Cesarea Corvera Magallanes, b. 27 Aug 1856; bapt 28 Aug 1856, birth place : Rancho de San Juan. Tlaltenango de Sanchez Roman, Zac. Cesarea daughter of Manuel Corvera y Jesus Magallanes. Manuel son of Trinidad Corvera y Petra Marquez. Jesus daughter of Antonio Magellanes y Jesus Gonsales. I found a marriage record for a Manuel Corbera y Jesus Magallanes 7 Feb 1875 Tlaltenango de Sanchez Roman, Zac. Their marriage is years after the dates listed above. I’m finding this same situation in another line ( Serrano y Salamanca), strangely 7 Feb is also their marriage date, but in the year of 1877..
