A couple of days ago when I started to have troubles with the familysearch I had a friend who works with computers for a living check out the situation.  He told me that the problem appeared to lie with lack of testing of the website before launching and not my XP.  I couldn’t wait and downloaded Firefox and all worked great. 
Today, I forgot to go through Firefox and accessed the site the old way through XP and I am no longer experiencing the problems as before. 
I hope everyone else is no longer experiencing the technical difficulties as before.
