Sorry it took so long for a response; I was out of the country for over two weeks. Thanks for the informacion matrimontal suggestion. I’ve heard that many people have had success, but I’ve never tried informacion matrimontal because I thought you needed alot of specific information to begin with. How do you utilize this resource? Is it found through the Pilot program?
Also, I didn’t really hear from anyone about how they’ve successfully researched ancestry in Spain out side of what is found online through Familysearch. I don’t know how to verify names I find in PARES. Do you have to contact specific churches for this? I would definitely try, aun que mi Espanol escrito es terible!!! Again, I would appreciate it if anyone that has researched and verified ancestors in Spain, share their methodology.
Thank you again for your consideration and suggestions. Alice
Thank you ag

Hello Alice,
I was able to find my ancestors through a Yahoo geneaology group and posting an entry. I was emailed by someone telling me we were from the same line and he provided me with my ancestors names and other info.
I posted a link to one of them you can use before – http://es.groups.yahoo.com/group/gencantabria/ but you can also use http://es.groups.yahoo.com/group/gen-burgos/ and http://es.groups.yahoo.com/group/genealhispana/ I have searched those sites for Santelices posts and I haven’t found any so you will need to post entries yourself.
You can also pay for a service to provide you with all the census info for Santander (Cantabria) at http://www.apellidosdecantabria.com/index.php
Here is some info on the surname found at http://www.linajes.net/esq22.php?nombre=Santelices&submit=Buscar

Good Morning Armando,
Thanks for responding and the resources. I will definitely try them. Were you able to connect, and verify that they were indeed your direct ancestors like we do using the Family History birth, marriage, and/or death entries? Thanks again for the information–any little bit helps and could be parts of the bigger puzzle that is our genealogy. Alice

I was able to find entries with enough detailed info to be sure it was them
but only because the Basque government has sponsored a site that has the
sacramental registers of their territories and also because an uncle had a
copy of my bisabuelo’s baptismal record that I didn’t know he had until I
told him I found more ancestral info and also because my tatarabuelo had his
geneaology registered in Bilbao. I know that doesn’t help you unless you are
able to tie yourself to the Santelices of Vizcaya, but one thing can lead to
another starting with info acquired from the websites I provided. If you pay
for the services of the census info and find a household with names matching
those of Tomás de Santelices, Antonia Ybanes (Ibañez) and Juan Fermín
Santelices around 1775 or earlier then you can almost be positive that it is
them. The names aren’t as common as other names. Also once you get a reply
from someone in a group they may even have copies of what you need.

In your research have you encountered “Lizarraga”? I was informed by a reference librarian of the Archivos de Indias in Seville that this name is a common Basqe name. My paternal abuela and abuelos 6x in my “Lizarraga” line, lived in a region of Nueva Galacia, that is now the modern state of Nayarit, Mexico .

Hello Paul,
We’ve communicated on the subject before. I think that was before I had to
change my email address for Nuestros Ranchos due to formatting errors with
my other email. I’ve also posted something I have found since but Nuestros
Ranchos didn’t distribute the email.
Technically Lizarraga and Lazarraga are two different surnames. But as we
know spellings can change and at times there are errors.
LIZAR, Lizarra = Estella. El fresno. Aga = Lugar LIZARRAGA =
Lissarrague = Lugar de fresnos.
LAZA = Suelto, anchuroso. LAZAGA = Lugar anchuroso. LAZARRAGA = Lugar
tranquilo.

Here is some more I just found
http://www.linajes.net/esq22.php?nombre=Lizarraga&submit=Buscar

For some reason my responses through email make it to the website but aren’t distributed to the mailing list. When I respond on the website they are sent to the mailing list. Alice and Paul can you visit http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/es/node/18645?page=2 to see my replies?
Can someone check to see why my email responses aren’t being distributed?

Yes, Armando, I did receive you reply. I have looked at a Basque site that
contains sacramental information that I know will be of assistance to me in
the future, once I identify a Lizarraga, who was born in Spain.

Hello Paul,
I’ve got Juan Fermin Santelices (based on his marriage in Queretero in 1793), was born in Santander. His father was named Tomas Santelices and his mother as Antonia Ybanes, I’m assuming they were also born in Spain. I’d love to know which Basque site contains sacramental information. Thanks so much. Hello Alice,
A site that has sacramental info for Basque territories is
http://snae.org/CRIS/busqueda.en.php it does a comprehensive search for 3
provinces instead of having to go to each site individually, To order copies
