I recently saw software that downloads the entire Lds film to a computer. Does anyone have the information or any experience using the software ?

I would be careful with this; there may be copyright issues with doing this.

There can’t be copyright issues for automating something you can do manually, legally, and is publicly available. I doubt it works though.

Last year I went to a conference in Saltillo and one of the speakers said his students in Utah were using a program to download entire LDS films and that so far they had no complaints from familysearch. I didn’t find out which program they were using.

I watched the tutorial for this software, and I must say that I am very impressed with what ‘Jon’ has accomplished.

The only problem for me is that I’m not at all sure I want to download entire microfilms—hundreds of them—onto my computer; I mean, why would I want to reproduce even a part of the online FamilySearch archive? That said, it is a pretty neat trick ‘Jon’ has pulled off here.

It seems the Fastfilm website has been taken down due to conflict with Family Search. unless someone has information showing other wise.

The website is Fastfilm on Facebook.

he had been offering free downloads for the program and was issuing updates. the facebook site says it has now been closed .. i didnt read the details something about conflict with Lds. the software allows you to download the entire film for use offline.. I was conciderng buying a 2 Terabyte external hard drive to download a number of films for research..

In my opinion he could continue offering the software for downloading the files and viewable through adobe flashplayer as long as he didnt specify that it was for Family history film downloading…

I would like to see the LDS website offering this download. I have concidered contacting the Fastfilm people to find out about possible future software release…
