Actually, mitochondrial DNA only comes from the mother. So a mother and a
daughter would have the exact same mDNA, unless there is some sort of
mutation, which is rare. Any sons would also have only the mother’s
mitochondrial DNA.
Other kinds of DNA are mixed up from the mother and the father. That’s why
mitochondrial DNA is so useful for genealogy.
