The word that sometimes looks like “puerto,” when identifying the place
where the person in question lived, is “puesto.” While it can literally
mean “place” or “position,” it also translates to a “post” or “station,”

mean “place” or “position,” it also translates to a “post” or “station,”
which is what I have assumed to be the appropriate use here — perhaps
similar to the Pony Express stations or railroad depots of America’s western
frontier in the 1800s? I’d be interested in learning more.
