Don’t get frustrated, be patient. You should start by ordering the social security application for your grandafther. That will list his parents, birth date and birth place. I know that on my grandfather’s it actually listed his mother with her maiden name so once you have that I am sure it will be rather easy to find the correct place to look.
Many films are not yet indexed so you cannot access the information online. You will have to head over to your local family history center (www.familysearch.com) and order the film. You cannot check the films out so you have to look at them there in the family history center. The people who work at the centers are very helpful.
You should find where your closest center is and perhaps visit it in anticipation of getting the social security application for your grandfather. That way when it comes you will be ready to go.
