What is going on now at the “new” Family Search site?

My Windows XP with IE8 was working fine, now it seems they have changed things. I no longer get the little hand that grabs and moves the page around smoothly, nor the little box on the bottom right corner where you could zoom. Instead there seem to be two double pointed crossed arrows that do nothing but make the page jump around erratically, and I can’t go from one page to another without a lot of delay. Arrrgh!
